Successful Projects__Hope for Orphans and Rural Development (HORD) partnered with the local community to implement a door to door advocacy project entitled 'Reduction of Gender Based Violence' (hereinafter referred to as GBV) in schools and communities and a stop child sacrifice campaign in the four sub-counties of Bugulumbya, Wankole, Bulopa and Nawanyago in Kamuli district. The overall objectives of the projects are to improve the basic education and life-long learning opportunities for girls, boys and their families and to stop the deprivation of children’s rights to live by fighting ritual murder in general and child murder in particular in the above sub-counties in Kamuli district.
These projects focused on increasing the proportion of primary school age girls and boys completing primary school by reducing the prevalence of violence against children in the target schools in the those four sub-counties, increasing school and community awareness/knowledge on the effects of violence and rights of children in the target communities, contributing to the development of safe, child-friendly school environments and increasing school children, families and communities’ participation in “safe school” promotion programs. As a result of the community dialogues, school talks and continued involvement of community members in protecting vulnerable community members against violence, it was observed through engaging with various key actors and case reports made by HORD that (with increased knowledge on issues relating to Gender Based Violence and child protection) more cases are being reported at police, LC courts and Probation and Welfare office through the four sub-counties. Community Development Office compared to what it was like before the project started. The launching of the stop child sacrifice campaign was opened up by a women's bicycle rally. These projects are still going on. |
